‘Agneepath’ is an official adaptation of the cult film of the same name which was released in the year of 1990 that starred superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa in lead roles. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt in their respective lead roles in this newest adaptation, the movie is directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar & Hiroo Johar, under the banner of Dharma Productions. Karan Malhotra is an ex-assistant of the filmmaker Karan Johar and is making his directorial debut with this movie. The original film was produced by Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar, and was directed by well-known director Mukul Anand. The role which was enacted by Mithun Chakraborty has been entirely chopped away in the remake.
Synopsis:
In a miniature Indian village Mandwa, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan (Hrithik Roshan) is trained by his ethical father regarding the pathway of fire - AGNEEPATH. His life is totally devastated when the wicked drug trader Kancha (Sanjay Dutt) hangs his father to death. Vijay leaves the village and travels towards Bombay in the company of his pregnant mother. He has now just one goal in his life, to return to Mandwa and take back the credit of his father's name.
In Bombay, this 12 year old Vijay is engaged under the groups of the town gang lord Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor). After that it’s a voyage of vengeance where he makes and breaks a lot of relations simply to get nearer to his mission.
Vijay discovers a back up from merely in his finest friend and love interest Kaali (Priyanka Chopra), who stands by him at every instant in his life. After 15 years, Vijay’s hate and revenge for Kancha takes him back to Mandwa where life takes a complete turns in full circle.
Promotion:
The first look of Hrithik Roshan's personality was publicized on July 5, 2011. Producer Karan Johar updated a link on Twitter to Agneepath's Facebook fan page, which enclosed a picture of Hrithik as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan.
For the intention of a definite screen exposure and wider fame for the movie, the Dharma Productions group placed the first theatrical promo of the movie with the release of Salman Khan's Bodyguard, which was released on August 29, 2011 and the second theatrical promo was spread with Shah Rukh Khan's Don 2 which was released on December 23, 2011. Both the promos were well acknowledged.
Production:
Shooting of the movie started in January 2011. Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt together carried out a firm work out system to put on muscle for the movie. Initially the release date of the movie was scheduled on November 11, 2011. However then it was pushed to January 26, 2012. Shooting of the movie took place in Mumbai's Film City and also in Diu, India.
On October 18 it came in news that Hrithik Roshan wounded himself at some stage in shooting; the filming was then postponed by 15 days. Director Karan Malhotra had tweeted that the second promo of Agneepath will be publicized at the end of December together with the release of Don 2.
Katrina Kaif is performing an item number which is choreographed by Ganesh Acharya in Agneepath, titled as "Chikni Chameli". This item song will as well feature Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt in it. The first look preview of "Chikni Chameli" was released on 13 December, 2011.
Soundtrack:
All the songs are composed by the twosome Ajay-Atul, whereas lyrics are written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The item song "Chikni Chameli" is a remodel of the Marathi track "Kombdi Palali" from the film Jatra. The ‘Kombadi Palali’ track is as well composed by the duo Ajay and Atul in Jatra movie. Chikni Chameli item number of Katrina got truly fame and recognition all over. The music of the movie Agneepath as well got affirmative reviews from a few of the topmost reviewers in B-town.
