Ata Pata Laapata Movie Review

No. Of Views : 3740

Dated : November, 3, 2012 BY

Quick Take:

The movie revolves around the fight of the common man who has to battle for his rights and face resistance from corrupt politicians and unnecessary bureaucratic red tape. The role of the media in this world which is full of vices is reflected in this film which is full of satire and humor.

Story Review:

Chaturvedi is a simpleton who belongs to Swapnaloka Colony in Izzat Nagar. It is here that he claims that his bungalow named Dwarka Sadan (Rajpal Yadav) has suddenly gone missing. He plans to lodge an FIR and approaches inspector Satya Prakash Chaubey (Ashutosh Rana). In a hilarious manner inspector Satya Prakash is not too keen to lodge the FIR but is compelled to do so. This leads to a medley of confusion which involves the political big wigs along with the media which is supposed to be the mirror of the society. The tussle between the haves and the have not's becomes food for the hungry press who is in the lookout for scandals to feed their viewers. What ensures is a one against the system battle.

Acting Review:

The acting of Ashutosh Rana was par excellence and left the audience visibly tickled. Rajpal Yadav in his inimitable style ushered in each scene with precision and a wonderful art of execution which made the film worth watching.

Direction and Screenplay:

Ata Pata Laapata marks the debut of Rajpal Yadav as a director and his trademark vibrancy is very much visible in each and every frame of the film. The dialog delivery is a wonder and is indeed full of satire. The entire film is a colorful congregation of talent which makes the viewers smile with its simplicity and narrative ability.

The role of the media in adding fuel to the fire rather than trying to restore a semblance of sensibilities reflects the sorry state of affairs in the country.

Highlight of the Film:

Although there are many moments which are worth mentioning, there is a cameo in the film which features the late Dara Singh. Incidentally this is his last film before his death. Seeing the beloved Dara Singh onscreen for the last time is sure to make you emotional.

Final Verdict:

The movie is a satire based film which makes use of music to highlight the condition of the common masses caught in a whirlpool of corruption. Unfortunately it is a no frills film which will be overshadowed by the big banners and names which are touted for release on the same date. But despite its low budget, sans promotion the movie is refreshingly interesting and will surely make you put on your thinking caps.
