Ratings

JTHJ is a romantic film directed by Yash Chopra, where music is composed by A R Rahman, and lyrics are written down by Gulzaar. Ratings of the music album is 4 stars

Expectations

Expectations would be but obvious higher from this album, keeping in mind the combination of Yash Chopra, A R Rahman and Gulzar, along with Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma playing the leads here. The album of this romantic saga is although not a highly exceptional one, but is actually a satisfactory one.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Music Review

Challa...

The album kicks off with a very energetic and foot-tapping song 'Challa' that reprises the mood of a person whenever listened. Guitar is playing on the forefront, and singer Rabbi Shergill is the selected one to croon throughout. Music is very catchy, but the lyrics are quite filled with Punjabi accent, which would be seen as a typical style of Rabbi. Video of the song is also quite pleasant and an uplifting one.

Saans...

'Saans' is a romantic number, where singer Shreya Ghoshal had took her own time to sing this slow paced track. Although it doesn't come out as a song from Yash Chopra's album, but is somewhat good enough to soothe the listeners in a romantic mood. Also there is a two minutes 'reprise version' of the same song, but as the original itself have created a average impact, one just can't expect much in the newer version of it.

Ishq Shava...

After hearing the song 'Ishq Shava', one would recollect that it's not that kind of song for which the legacy of Yashji carries out. However on the other hand, it's actually that kind of song where his son Aditya Chopra is quite famous for in his movies such as 'Mohabbatein' and 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi', and also to some extent in Yashji's directorial movie 'Dil To Pagal Hai'. Overall, it's a foot-tapping and rocking track! Raghav Mathur and Shilpa Rao have successfully managed to hold the listeners, and the song had as well successfully gripped the viewers on the screen.

Heer...

Next one is also an altogether different version, which is quite a Punjabi offering composed by A R Rahman. It's a beautiful track, where singer Harshdeep Kaur is doing quite well in this happy-sad rendition which has a folk flavor attached to it. It's a smooth flowing song, where it further turns out to be more soulful in the 'antara' parts and pretty much travels you in an altogether different world.

Jiya Re...

Now again the album shifts its mood, and comes back from where it has been left with a foot-tapping and reprising dance number 'Jiya Re' sung by Neeti Mohan. The song perfectly suits Anushka Sharma's bubbly and lively personality, and on the video, she as well successfully manages to hold on its own. The song can be heard as many times, and one would get refresh all over.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan...

Title song 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' comes quite late in album, but as its said, 'Der aaye par durust aaye!' The song kicks off with the crooning of Javed Ali, and follows the rhythmic flow that moves further as and when it proceeds. However one just expects that the title song of the movie could have been more impressive, and thus somehow it falls short. On the other hand, it impresses quite well to some extent and thus the song can be rated as an average offering.

Ishq Dance (Instrumental)...

Three and a half minutes 'instrumental' track titled as 'Ishq Dance' could well be compared with YRF's trademark and famous instrumental numbers seen in movies like DTPH, Mohabbatein, RNBDJ, and so on. The audio and video, both, impresses well.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (poem)...

The ending of the album is quite good, where the lead actor Shahrukh Khan is seen rendering out the poem 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' in his own charismatic style. If truth to be told, this is the only song where one experiences the much-loved vintage feeling of Yashji, right from Gulzar's lyrics to Shahrukh's voice accent to Rahman's music. The merger of these things justifies the entire team and makes the song something very magical.

Overall

Jab Tak Jai Jaan is a mixed bag that has songs from various genre and different moods. The album also balances enough to impress every generation, right from the audio parts to the video parts. However as it was the directorial movie of Yash Chopra, the expectations were built up something else, but he had himself earlier clarified that the movie is quite modern but his trademark soul is there for all the time. Well this can be very well witnessed and experienced after listening and viewing the chartbuster songs of Yash Chopra's last directorial movie 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. Furthermore, Rahman's composition and Gulzar's lyrics are also not matched up to their expectations, but somehow it impresses fair enough. On the whole, one can definitely listen and watch the songs for a second time, and that's what counts for the success of it.

Our Pick(s)

All - Challa, Saans, Ishq Shava, Heer, Jiya Re, Ishq Shava (Instrumental), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Poem).
