The Ramsay brothers incepted the horror genre in our Hindi cinema in such a way that by the mid 80's they had many clones who started making their types of films. Out of those clones, there were filmmakers like Mohan Bhakri, Joginder, Kanti Shah and a few more who took this entire genre to lower levels as they added forced nudity and skin show in it. At that time, these films were termed as B-grade films and now after almost two decades something similar is being done in 'Ragini MMS 2', with a new term known as 'Horrex', which is a combination of horror and sex. 'Ragini MMS 2' is a sequel to 'Ragini MMS' which released in 2011. 'Ragini MMS' was a decent and different horror film in comparison to the horror films which were made at that time. It had titillating moments, decent story line, good technicality and was a result of good marketing strategies. The makers are back with the sequel and this time they have Adult film star Sunny Leone with them with few chartbuster tracks indulged in it. So let's find out whether 'Ragini MMS 2' will manage to establish the so called new genre called as 'Horrex' in our Hindi cinema or might end up being a old wine in a new bottle trying to cash in over its past glory.
'Ragini MMS 2' is story Ragini (Kainaz Motivala) who is known for her MMS video but now is in a mental asylum. Rocks (Pravin Dabas) a Bollywood director gets fascinated by this real life story and decides to make a full fledge feature film. He signs a porn film star Sunny Leone (Sunny Leone) in the lead role and decides to shoot his film on the same location where the whole incident with Ragini had occurred. Is the place still haunted? Well, that is what the entire film is all about.
Screenplay & Technicalities:
The story starts from where 'Ragini MMS' ended and carry forwards it in the form of a regular horror film, where people go to the haunted places and one after another starts getting killed. The past story of the spirit has shades of few Hollywood horror films like 'The Conjuring', etc. 'Ragini MMS' was made with a realistic style, whereas 'Ragini MMS 2' is more filmy and focuses on the glamour and skin show. It lacks the intensity and rawness of 'Ragini MMS'. However, on the positive part, the sequel is engaging and has entertaining second half attached to it. There are absolutely no scary moments in the film, but the thrill quotient is throughout the film. There are some good scenes like Sunny checking her throat in front of the camera, Sandhya's shoot experience, Divya Dutta trying to find out the real story of the sprit and a few more. In addition, scenes like Sunny making loud porn film type noises, the drinking game followed by Sunny-Pravin make out are entertaining and interesting. On the flip side, the logic part goes for a toss, first half is total dragging with unwanted skin show, and bathing scenes followed by the Sunny-Saahil Prem's boring love track along with the predictable and weak climax dilutes the flow of the film. Dialogs and performances are at par with any B-grade film. The camera work is below the mark and nowhere in styling and comparison with 'Ragini MMS'.
Music & Direction:
The music of 'Ragini MMS 2' has already become a rage with songs like 'Baby Doll' & 'Char Bottle Vodka'. The love song and theme music are bad and totally unwanted. Background music is jarring.
Director Bhushan Patel manages to add the glamour content in the sequel of 'Ragni MMS' but lacks over the creativity and freshness as it was in the its predecessor. There are no scary moments or thrills, but thanks to the director's narrative style, the movie is engaging and entertaining. The makers should have made 'Ragini MMS 2' in the same format as they did earlier with more horror element attached to it.
Sunny Leone succeeds to add the star value to this film. Regarding her performance, less said the better. Divya Dutta is good in her parts. Pravin Dabas, Sandhya Mridul, Saahil Prem and Karan Mehra hams a lot. Anita Hassanandani and Soniya Mehra are wasted. Kainaz Motivala is fine in her parts.
So bol meri 'Filmi Khopdi' iss film mein kitna hain Dum?
Dum? Well, there is lots of dum for all those Sunny Leone fans and those who love B-grade type horror films. However the true fans of 'Ragini MMS' might not find the sequel as appreciable to its predecessor and thus would recommend them to watch 'Ragini MMS' instead. Thanks to the chartbuster songs and star power of Sunny Leone, this MMS will definitely go viral over the box office window.
